After a self-financed cd (Termination in surreal) in 2001 After a self-financed cd (Termination in surreal) in 2001 and a demo (Morbid brain) last year, the Finnish guys from DELIRIUM’S ORDER will release their first real album this year. DLO practice an amazing thrash/death metal with heavy metal and old school touches, and could be the revelation of 2004 in the death/thrash scene! Let’s Nekro cancer tell us more about his band.  (Interview done before the release of "Victim N°52").

Hi Nekro cancer! Can you introduce the band (story and members)?
Ave! You wanna know what Delirium’s order is about? It’s about technical death and thrashing heavy combined with purest metal, sickest stories about serial killers, visions of the darker side of complex human mind. It all started as a normal melodic metal band, but then along improved playing skills and knowing about metal music we evolved the grand project towards faster, more brutal and sick style. Currently we are a four-piece band with me, S.M nekrocancer assaulting guitars, E.R insane blasting drums, Dr.lirium pulling backing-guitard duty and corpse torturing his throat.

Can you explain the choice of this name ’Delirium’s order‘ for your band?
I’m sure that it draws attention and stirs questions of its  meaning and writing  style. Not surprised that this is the first question. First of all, maybe the state of Delirium is familiar to everyone. One of its meaning is that after drinking a lot you lost control and basically bang your head to the wall to die. It can also mean something really chaotic and the word order is of course the contrary to it. Delirium is a sick guy who rules his own surreal world an iron fist

Morbid brain’ is your second release? What do you think now about your first one’Termination in surreal‘?
It’s something very different from our band, and I will not distribute it anymore. There is real ‘delirium‘ between the tracks, they vary very much from each other. It must be very painful for listeners to get inside it. I think it’s really a bad demo, although there are many good riffs, arranged poorly to be songs. First there can be blastbeat, then some melodic stuffs, then hard rock, suddenly a guitar solo, oh man that’s a terrible mess.

Now we can  concentrate on‘Morbid brains‘. The first thing which amazed is the quality of the production. Have you done it by yourself?
Yes, I have. Many have praise it, for being a demo release and still having clear  and crunchy professionnal sounds. Actually I made some radical designers during the recording process and they magically worked when I was mixing the work. For example, the guitars were recorded with line-sound with no amplifier, through a boss-MT2-that’s what created the raw and clear sound. Solos are recorded through a mic with a blueswvave-amp and the sound is really great. I’ve recorded a few demos over the years and that basically helped me to get the right world of sounds for the’Morbid brains’ demo.

The other thing is the quality and the diversity of your songs combined with incredible guitar solos. You played death metal with heavy and thrash touches. I think DLO can be appreciated by the amateurs of these three styles, do you agree with me?
I can’t say that people should like or admire us, but I’m quite sure that we can play any of these metal categorieswith attitude. One thing that makes me do songs including so variable parts and styles is that I’m not very patient to play one riff over and over again. It’s boring and not stimulating! Guess, is it hard to make music that has lots of variety and still sounds united? Actually the songs are not only made from musical direction, I try to come up with riffs that have a good feeling when playing them. Can’t say this instead of the band’s other guys, maybe they are tortured by my choices to compose music. I think that technical and challenging music is fucking great to play with guitar. This is the reason why there are so many guitar solos around.

How  about the titles of the songs. Is there a link between them (‘abomination‘, ‘Through the eyes of a muderer‘, ‘The sounds of mutilation’, ‘Masterpiece of a morbid mind‘). What are the topic of the lyrics?
The lyrics of abomination are written by our vocalist, corpse, and the rest of these are my handwork. Death is the topic of every song discussed, although they all have a bit different approach to it. Abomination is a straightforward lyricline in the vein of old school thrash or death, though  is very surreal and tries to imitate the thoughts of a muderer. Sounds is the most straightforward lyric I’ve ever written. It just concentrates on the horror of dismembering. Masterpiece tells about the feelings of a city haunted by serial killer, how he spread body-part around and they were found by near relationers.

What are the reactions about ’Morbid brains‘? Did you send some copies to the labels?
The reviews it received were outstanding, never guessed that this would happen. But it was a release that we really worked hard for, pushed ourselves to the limits of playing skill and brutal force. I send it to over a ten labels but none of them offered a deal which would match our desires. Then, Woodcut records showed interest towards us and we signed a deal which lead to the recording of our debut album in august 2003.

About the future album, which will be released in the beginning of 2004, will it be in the continuity of ‘MB‘ or should we expect some changes?
A sort of continuity, 3 of its tracks are re-recorded for the album. There are more varying songs included, for example,’Dr.lirium orders:suffering’ is about straight thrash metal while most of the songs are very death-metallish’.The lyrics have a uniform theme: Serial killers around the globe. I had a short period when I studied about serial killer murders and killers, made much of lyriclines about them and decided to shape an album by their content. It’s hard to include the feelings and horror included in those crimes in words, but combined with our music it’s working. About three months has passed after we recorded the album and the release will be sometime in spring 2004.

How about corpse (Deathchain/Trollheim’s grott). Is he a permanent member of DLO? His vocals are perfect in ‘MB‘!
I’ll redirect your praise to him! Ok, corpse was fit joined as a session member but he has done the vocals for over a year right now. I believe that he is quite busy with his bands like deathchain. I hope that he can continue with us although it may be quite hard.T ry to give your best work for 4-5 different bands! I’m glad that I only have 1 main project, even though it would be great to play more different music through numerous bands.

The Finnish scene is full of bands with excellent musicians. Is it difficult for you to draw attention? Do you think to be a finnish band is at the present time a real avantage to find a good deal?
The number of bands is increasing all the time, so it’s getting harder and harder. There are so many new good bands and so there is more shit! Thrash and death metal is the name of the game here right now, black/dark metal is drawing less and less attention. Many Finnish bands make deals with foreign companies, luckily we are not one of them. It’s good to have the label near by.

How will you define the perfect label for DLO?
No labels perfect, that I’m sure about. No matter who you are, what kind of music you play. Can’t say much about our label Woodcut records, time will show what they are about. But a perfect label. What can I say.The usual: arranges gigs, invests in promotion, give good royalties to the band, makes what is promised, in acorrect schedule.                                                      ecords, time will show what they are about. But a perfect label. What can I say.The usual: arranges gigs, invests in promotion, give good royalties to the band, makes what is promised, in acorrect schedule.

What are your favourite bands and the bands you’re listening at the present time?
Finnish:Machine men = walking the path of Iron maiden(awesome!),Sotajumala = Florida style death metal;Deathchain = Neo thrash metal(corpse’s main band),Amoral = Technical progressive death.Foreign:  Angel corpse& Deicide = no words needed.Classic and the best ones.Spawn of possession = incredible brutal tech-death metal(arghh!!)

What do you think about the French scene, are you listening some bands?
I know very little, but would like to learn something about your scene and country. Burgul torkhain threw a great gig here at Tuska 2003 festival, they have a great attitude! Wish a good future for them  .

I let you conclude this interview.Do you have a last message for the french metalheads?
Remember your finnish brothers in metal!!! Get a copy of our album to listen the sound of mutilation, «victim no.52» will be released internationally somewhere in the spring 2004! The demo« Morbid brains»2003 is available to download at http://www.deliriumsorder.net.
