INFERI "Shores of sorrow" (Northern Heritage) 2006

I was really eager to listen to a full-length album from INFERI as I was so impressed with the previous demos "Slow decay..." and "Rise of deceased" (review)! And I can say that I'm not disappointed, even if after the first listening I didn't feel the same emotions than on the two demos. But when you really begin to enter the Fyrdkal's world you can't opt out. The melancholic and depressive atmosphere is still present as well as the melodic touch supported by the presence of an acoustic guitar. This contrast between the grim and acoustic guitars gives a particular dimension to this album. Furthermore, the very slow tempo of the 4 tracks (for 50 minutes) brings an oppresive atmosphere and a feeling of malaise; only the end of the last track "What once shined" provides a fast tempo. The Burzum influence is still present but I find that the music of Fyrdkal has its own identity. This album is a masterpiece of Dark/Black Metal, just listen to the first track "To the once so sad world"  and its slow progression in the depression... and it's only the beginning. Simply great!!!
