SCARS "The Nether Hell"

SCARS "The Nether Hell" Mini CD (Scars) 2005
"Since its return, the band has made it a rule that the music must be the heaviest and most aggressive, not blending with any trendy style - just plain old good thrash metal". This is what you can read on Scars' biography! So after reading this I was really eager to listen to this band who had its official kick off in 1991 in Sao Paulo, Brazil and has already played along with Kreator, Anthrax, Rata Blanca......! After 500 concerts, the band split up in 1998. Hopefully the band gets back in 2004 for our biggest pleasure, cause "The Nether Hell" is a Thrash Metal steamroller! This Mici CD is only the band's second official release after the debut album "The Ultimate Encore" (1994) but we feel the big professionalism and experience of the musicians. The first two tracks "Creatures that come alive in the dark" and the terrible "Warfare" are typically Thrash and the production is impressive! The guitar solos are really melodic, technical and sounds great, reminds me those of Agent Steel! But when the following song "The Nether Hell" begins, we discover the real force of Scars: the band embellish its thrash with elements coming from Death Metal and Heavy Metal (especially for the guitar solos and melodies)! "The Nether Hell" is the heaviest and longest (6,26") track of the cd, but it is never boring because of the large variety of guitar riffs, solos, tempos...a real pleasure, definitely a great song! The other three songs are awesome as well, "Legions (forgotten by the gods)" and "Hidden roots of evil" are the more Death Metallish ones (reminds me Vader per moment), while "Return to the killing ground" is more Power - Thrash Metal (By Power Metal I mean, the powerful Heavy Metal that was played in the 80's of course!). 30 minutes of a really Powerful Thrash Metal keeping the old school flame alive, this is what you get with Scars, don't miss this band!
P.S. The booklet is superbe!
